Level 1 History Trip 2019

Almost 50 Level 1 History students enjoyed some gorgeous weather ast week as they learned about the gold rush period that hit the Thames/Waihi region in the late 19th century. After trekking through the Karangahake Gorge in the footsteps of those early miners, the group set off for Waihi where we learned about how the diggers put their skills to use in WW1 and how the gold mining community has been transformed in the last 25 years. After a night spent relaxing in the hot pools at Miranda we went underground in Thames, exploring the richest mine in the country with the volunteers from the Thames Goldmine Experience Company. An awesome bunch of young historians learned plenty that they can utilise in their first NCEA internal.
