International welcome

Welcome from Orewa College

It is our privilege to welcome International Students from around the world and help them get the most out of their time at Orewa College.

International Students have different reasons for coming to New Zealand. Some attend school for a short time to experience a different culture, improve their English, experience new opportunities and try different school subjects that are not available to them in their home countries like Dance, Drama, Hospitality, and Carpentry. Others come to study and gain NCEA qualifications which can lead to University entrance.

Whatever the reasons we are confident that you will enjoy school life at Orewa College, develop independence and make friends for life. We love witnessing the change and growth of our students.

Orewa is the gateway to the Hibiscus Coast and is famous for its beautiful 3km beach. The town has a very friendly vibe and has a variety of shops, cafes and attractions. There is also a good bus service into Auckland City (37km) and Albany Mall (20km). There is opportunity to further explore New Zealand with Tour Companies who offer International Students weekend trips around the North Island and the South Island during the term breaks.

We are very proud of our school and town and look forward to welcoming you into our warm school community and helping you make the most of your time here.

Deputy Principal

As Deputy Principal I have the opportunity to work with students across year levels and curriculum areas which is very rewarding as well as being involved in the day to day operation and planning for the future direction of learning in the College. One of the highlights of my job is celebrating students’ personal achievement/success in whatever area they participate in be it sporting, cultural and/or academic.

I am passionate about showing the students the best of what the greater Auckland region has to offer, especially on trips to places that are otherwise hard to access. From visiting remote beaches and islands to conservation work, kayaking, paintballing, surfing, caving and horse trekking.

I have also hosted around 15 international students in the last 20 years and love the cultural exchange that occurs and having them as part of my family.
