New Year 13 Trades Pathway Launching for 2027

Orewa College is excited to introduce a new Year 13 Trades Pathway for 2027, creating an exciting opportunity for students who are considering a future in the skilled trades.

Designed for students who are interested in pursuing a career in the trades. The pathway combines industry-focused learning with NCEA Level 3, helping students build the knowledge, skills and experience needed to move confidently into apprenticeships, further training or employment after leaving school.

Throughout the year, students will explore a range of trade-related careers, including construction, engineering and other skilled industries. As well as developing practical construction skills, students will gain valuable life skills through learning about budgeting and financial management, improving their fitness, and developing leadership capabilities that are highly valued by employers.

A key feature of the programme is the opportunity for students to build strong connections with industry and gain authentic workplace experience. These real-world experiences will help students develop confidence, understand employer expectations, and make informed decisions about their future careers.

Students wishing to apply for the Trades Pathway will select the relevant subjects during Week 5 course selection.

The programme includes:

  • Construction Trades
  • Gateway
  • Financial Literacy for Trades
  • Sports Leadership

As this pathway prepares students for the workplace, participants will be expected to demonstrate excellent attendance, maintain safe and responsible behaviour at all times, and work towards successfully achieving NCEA Level 3 by the end of 2027.

We look forward to supporting our students as they take this exciting step towards rewarding careers in New Zealand's growing trades sector.
