Manaaki Orewa

Manaaki Orewa is our values programme to promote and recognise three key areas:

  • Respecting oneself
  • Respecting others
  • Respecting the environment — both physical and digital

We translate Manaaki Orewa as "to foster, to support, to journey together."

GoalsOur commitments to learning, teaching, and culture

Through Ako Orewa, we enable students to understand their learning progress, and through Manaaki Orewa, we promote respect for oneself, others, and the environment.

  • Our prime purpose is the education of our students, and all decisions affecting the school will be based upon improving the educational outcomes of all students.
  • Student learning is directly related to the quality of teaching, and all staff continue developing their skills to provide the highest quality of teaching.
  • A comprehensive values programme, Manaaki Orewa, and a structured set of learning strategies, Ako Orewa, should form part of the school's curriculum and culture.
  • All staff at Orewa College will have an understanding of the school's vision and programmes, roles and structures that support that vision — ensuring consistency in the classroom, the school, and the community aimed at achieving the vision.
Annual Implementation Plan and CharterDocuments supporting clarity, accountability, and improvement

Our charter and planning documents support our strategic direction and help ensure clarity, accountability, and continuous improvement. Annual Implementation Plans outline the actions we take each year to progress our strategic goals, including priorities, responsibilities, and measures of success.

Education Review Office (ERO)Independent assurance about the quality of education

The purpose of an ERO review is to give parents and the wider school community assurance about the quality of education that schools provide and their children receive.

An ERO school report answers the question: "How effectively is this school's curriculum promoting student learning — engagement, progress and achievement?" ERO also reports on learning outcomes for specific groups of learners (including Māori students, Pacific students, and students with special needs), and on the quality of a school's systems for sustaining and continuing improvements.

School ERO Report | Te Ara Huarau

Te Ara Huarau is the evaluation approach that ERO is using in our school — a developmental approach where ERO and our school work together over time, rather than the one-off reviews of the past. It is used in most English-medium state and state-integrated schools.

Our school worked alongside ERO to write our Profile Report. This report happens once, as part of our initial engagement with Te Ara Huarau, and reflects our strategic goals and a shared evaluation focus on areas important to us as we work to improve outcomes for all learners. ERO, like us, has a strong focus on equity and excellence. Future reporting will show our progress and achievement towards the goals we have set.

A Board Assurance Report showing how we meet regulatory and legislative requirements has also been published, along with a Provision for International Students report.
