OC70: Free Community Open Day

On Saturday 22 August 2026, Orewa College celebrated 70 years on the Hibiscus Coast by opening the gates for OC70, a free community open day that brought together past and present ākonga, staff, whānau, alumni and the wider community.

The centre of the school was alive with activity, with classic cars from the Hibiscus Rodders, more than 30 market stalls, five food trucks and a coffee cart creating the feel of a community gala. Throughout the day, visitors enjoyed performances from kapa haka, Pasifika, Bollywood and drama groups, alongside bands and displays from current sports teams.

A highlight of OC70 was the OC Museum, featuring memorabilia and photo boards spanning from the original head teacher’s log to today. Visitors also enjoyed seeing recreated original uniform pieces, including a pinafore and a tiny green blazer. Approximately 56 members of the school’s 1956–1966 foundation generation attended, reconnecting with each other and with the school that helped shape them.

Tours ran across the day, led by current Manukura student leaders, supported by Media Squad and volunteers who welcomed visitors, guided guests around the kura, and helped keep the programme running smoothly.

OC70 was a celebration of people, place, and shared history, and a reminder that Orewa College is built on its community.
