We wanted to let you know that the unexpected departure of our much respected colleague and Principal, Mr Greg Pierce, may have left many of you feeling a little sad, shocked and concerned. Change can be challenging, especially when it comes with little advance notice. But change is also an opportunity for growth and new discoveries.
The Board is actively working to ensure a smooth transition for the college while the search for a new Tumuaki is underway. We recognise the importance of maintaining stability for you as valued members of the teaching team, for our tauira and for our community. In addition, as you can appreciate, it may take some time to find the best person to lead Orewa College.
We are thankful that Mrs Anna Kenny has agreed to be the Acting Principal during this transitional period. Mrs Kenny wished Mr Pierce all the best for his new challenge and wanted to let you know that she “feels privileged to be the Acting Principal until a new one is appointed” and that she believes “that the Board of Trustees will do a professional job in finding a replacement who is committed, caring and supportive of Orewa College as Greg was."
Mr Pierce wanted to “acknowledge the consistent support” that he had “received from the whole Orewa community, ie, staff, students, parents/caregivers, Board of Trustees and other partners over the last three years. He also reminded us that “we continue to live in complex times and the whole community needs to continue to work together to ensure that this unique college continues to be an educational leader ”.
The Board hopes that you have a restful and a well-deserved break, that you have time to create some memorable experiences with those you love and that you come back looking forward to a positive start to the new year. Finally, we thank you for your ongoing dedication, passion and support of our tauira, whānau and entire community.
