Cricket 1st XI

The 1st XI unfortunately lost to Botany 1st XI in the weekend, losing by 105 runs in the final round robin match of the 1B competition. In front of a big home crowd at Orewa College, Botany batted first and after having them at 63 for 4 after 20 overs, they reached 189, all out in the 39th over. Blake Murphy, Year 13, had the best figures of 3 for 25 of 7 overs.

In reply Orewa College were all out for 84 in the 30th over, Sam Bauld, Year 13 and James Webb, Year 12, were the only players resisting the quality bowling of Botany for a decent length of time.

A tough result for the First XI as they lost their first game since the very start of the 20/21 season. However, there is an upcoming final against Botany again either later this term or in Term 3 (yet to be confirmed). The opportunity is there for the taking if the boys want it to move up into 1A. A big congratulations to Kade Cotterell and James Webb, Year 12, as they received their Orewa College Baggy Caps after playing 10 games for the First XI.

Thank you to their coach Taff Evans who after 3 seasons with the 1st XI, and 5+ seasons with Orewa College Cricket is stepping down as coach at the conclusion of this season. We thank Taff for his dedication and commitment to Orewa College Sport and this group of boys throughout the last few years.
