Twelve juniors and 6 seniors competed in the North Harbour Chess Power tournament at Murrays Bay Intermediate School. There was an outstanding show of Manaaki between the juniors and seniors, many swapping attacking or defensive move strategies between games. Congratulations to Leroy Lu (Yr 11), who took out the champions title and has qualified to compete in the Auckland Championships in October. Although he didn’t place, Caleb Gamman had many outstanding wins. Sophie Palmer Dale (Yr 13) took out the title of top female, betting many of the male top players also. The senior team won the day and have qualified for the Regional team championships in June. The top 3 players for the juniors were Declan Exeter, Sam Fortes and Desmond Chia.
