Your Award is designed by you to help you, discover, build on your strengths and interests, and develop your personality to give you the ability to deal with everything life can throw at you.
The mission of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award programme in New Zealand is to have young people, regardless of cultural, ethnic and socio-economic background, participating in an exciting, flexible and individually tailored programme, to build skills, identity and self-esteem.

You can register to do your Award using the ORB (Online Record Book). To access your online books fees need to be paid directly to to the DOE Office Directly (details below). Once your payment has been received the Award Leader at Orewa College is notified.

You can sign up to the the Bronze award on the year that you are going to turn 14 years old. Once you have finished the Bronze you can move straight onto Silver. The Bronze Award consists of 4 sections below:
The time requirement for Service, Skills and Physical Recreation is 3 months (13 weeks) for each section plus a further 3 months (6 months or 26 weeks in total) in either Service, Skills or Physical Recreation. The Tramps include Practical Outdoor Training, Practice Journeys, Qualifying Journey of 2 days and 1 night. Students will receive an email to their school email address and Parents / Caregivers will receive an email to the address we have on file for them a few weeks prior to the tramps with permission letters and costs. You can complete the ‘Preliminary Training’ component of the Adventurous Journey Section online. Instructions under Resources below.
When you have finished your Bronze Award an email is sent to invite you to join the Silver level. You must click link in email to join. Please also inform your Award Leader.

Silver is the second level of the Award and takes 6 months if you have done Bronze, or 12 if you are a direct entrant. To complete your Silver Award you must complete the below 4 sections:

You must be 15 years old to start on your Silver Award (unless you have completed Bronze). To achieve your Gold Award you must complete the 5 sections below. Once you have completed your Gold Award you will be invited to attend a Gold Award Ceremony to be presented with your Award by the Governor General.
The time requirement for Service, Skills and Physical Recreation is 12 months (52 weeks). The Tramps include Practical Outdoor Training, Practice Journeys, Qualifying Journey of 4 days and 3 nights. You must be 16 years old to start on your Gold Award. Students will receive an email to their school email address and Parents / Caregivers will receive an email to the address we have on file for them a few weeks prior to the tramps with permission letters and costs.
Once you completed your Gold level you will be invited to a ceremony and your name will be added to the Orewa College Honours Board in the Orewa Arts and Event Centre.
