Orewa College U17 basketball is showing strong teamwork, following a challenging opening game against Northcote Gold followed by a 36 to 23 win against Rangitoto College. The team has had a tough start to the season, with training progressing and team chemistry continuing to develop through each game.
Julius Chivell said the first result gave the team motivation. “Coming out of the first game didn’t put us in the best headspace, but it encouraged us to work harder for the next,” Julius said.
Peter Leng said the Rangitoto result has given the team confidence ahead of their next challenge against Westlake. “Westlake will make it hard for us, but after the results of our second game, I feel like we can give them a hard time, and accomplish that win,” Peter said.
The squad is coached by Michael Kenny, an Orewa College alumnus, with a game against Westlake Boys High School tonight.
