Orewa College DOE Nepal students held a Bunnings fundraiser and completed a 20km walk at Shakespear Park to support their September trip to Nepal.
Students prepare for Nepal trip through community events and endurance challenge
Orewa College’s DOE Nepal group held two fundraising events last weekend as part of their preparation for a September trip to Nepal, combining community engagement with physical training.
On Saturday, students spent the day outside Bunnings selling sausages and drinks, speaking with members of the public about their upcoming journey. The stall provided an opportunity to share the purpose behind the trip while raising funds to support travel and project costs.
The following day, the group completed a 20 kilometre walk around Shakespear Regional Park in 4 hours and 15 minutes. The walk formed part of their preparation for trekking in the Himalayas, with supporters sponsoring students per kilometre. The weekend reflected both the physical commitment and collective effort behind the trip, with students working together across both events. Support from the local community played a practical role, including contributions from New World Orewa, who backed the fundraising efforts.
With several months remaining before departure, the group continues to build both fitness and funds as they prepare for the experience ahead.
