Outdoor learning programme connects students with environment and teamwork
All Year 7 Orewa College students recently participated in the Ako Ki Te Taiao programme during Weeks 5 and 6.
The programme is led by teachers and supported by experienced instructors, giving students opportunities to try new activities and build connections with classmates, teachers, and the local environment.
Activities included archery, axe throwing, performing arts, high adventure challenges, surfing, stand up paddleboarding, raft building, camp cooking, shelter building, and team challenges.
Sessions were held across several locations including Orewa College, Centrestage Theatre, Orewa Beach, Wenderholm, and Action Ninja World. The programme also included Survival Day and Stage Combat School activities on campus.
Parent helpers supported the programme across the two weeks.
One parent reflected on the experience, saying it was a valuable opportunity for students to connect with others outside their classroom groups while building confidence and teamwork.
