More than 100 students take part in new before school sessions across four codes

Orewa College has launched its Year 8 Sport Pathways Programme this week, building on the strong foundation already established for Year 9 and Year 10 students in 2025.

On Thursday and Friday morning, more than 100 Year 8 students arrived early before school, ready to get involved in Netball, Football, Rugby, and Volleyball. The sessions are held on site at Orewa College and are supported by staff members Mr Ashton, Mr Windelburn, Mrs Donald, and Mr Wright, alongside senior student helpers.

Staff have worked steadily behind the scenes to extend the programme to younger ākonga, creating earlier opportunities for structured skill development and connection. The focus remains consistent across all year levels, strengthening enjoyment, confidence, skills, and relationships both on and off the field.

Senior students supporting the sessions have played an important role in modelling expectations and building links across year groups. With strong participation in its first week, the Year 8 pathway marks the next step in the continued growth of sport at Orewa College.
