Orchestral Programme Receives Community Trust Support

Grant funding will help expand the school’s instrument collection and widen access for students.

NZ Community Grant Funds New Instruments

Orewa College's orchestral programme has received a generous grant from the NZ Community Trust, allowing the school to expand its instrument collection and provide more students with the opportunity to learn and grow as musicians.

With the support of the NZ Community Trust, along with Stables Sports Bar, Couttas Bar & Grill, The Wade Bar & Bistro, The Crown Sports Bar Orewa Beach, and Grill House Buffet Orewa, the music department is purchasing additional instruments for the programme. This will mean more students can access quality instruments and explore music learning without barriers.

The expanded collection will support students who are new to instrumental music, as well as those continuing to develop their skills within the orchestral programme.

Ākonga Charlie Olsen recently shared their enthusiasm after beginning lessons on a school instrument. “I am so happy I could start learning on the school’s saxophone,” Charlie said.

Music teacher David Popper said Charlie’s experience reflects what the programme aims to offer. The focus is on giving students the confidence to try something new and discover where their interests and abilities may grow.

The funding support will help ensure the orchestral programme remains accessible and sustainable, supporting participation and learning across the school’s music community.
