Four Orewa College ākonga helped the Hibiscus Bays team win the U14 Girls Football Championship at the Western Springs Northern Tournament.
Four Orewa College footballers stand out in Auckland tournament
Macy Martin Dean, Isobel Rouse, Ellie Pulford Smith, and Zoe Hastings, all talented ākonga from Orewa College, celebrated a magnificent victory last weekend as their Hibiscus Bays team claimed the U14 Girls Football Championship.
The girls were part of a joint Hibiscus Coast and East Coast Bays Talent Development Programme team that competed at the Western Springs Northern Tournament. Demonstrating exceptional skill and teamwork, the Hibiscus Bays girls won every game over two days to reach the final. In a thrilling championship match, they triumphed over Auckland United with a 3-1 victory, securing their title as U14 Champions.
Davina Dean, a newly elected parent representative on the Orewa College School Board, praised the achievement. "It was a hard-fought game,” she said. “This is the pinnacle end of season tournament that brings together the top teams from Auckland and beyond."
This win speaks to the burgeoining popularity and success of football particular among our female athletes. The success of these four kura students underscores the strength of local football talent and provides an inspiring example for their peers.
