Ākonga Excellence Shines at Year 11 and 12 Prizegiving

Year 11 and 12 ākonga celebrated at Orewa College Prizegiving, with awards, performances, and whānau support.

A proud evening recognising academic success across two senior year levels

Less than 24 hours after our Year 13 graduates crossed the stage, the spotlight turned to the achievements of our Year 11 and 12 ākonga at Prizegiving.

Associate Principal Anna Kenny guided the proceedings, which opened with a vibrant staff processional performed by Wombo Combo. Nathali Weerasinghe returned to the stage to perform our National Anthem, again accompanied by Bruno McLeod.

Principal Wiri Warriner and School Board Presiding Member Steven McCleery shared words of encouragement before academic awards were presented by Kim Griffin (Year 11 Dean) and Richard Wells (Deputy Principal), followed by Dean Preston-Thomas (Year 12 Dean) and Anna Kenny (Associate Principal). Special awards were presented by Principal Wiri Warriner before the Senior Jazz Band closed the event.

Top honours included the Mātauranga Award for Year 12, presented to Alexander Bakhshov. The Withy Cup for Top NCEA Level 1 Student was awarded to Elizabeth Blanchard, who also received the Principal’s Award for All Round Excellence in Year 12. Mia Che was recognised as the top Year 11 student, and Deshanji Odedra also received a Principal’s Award for All Round Excellence in Year 11.

Ngā mihi to all staff, performers, and whānau who supported this celebration of success.
