Games Night Fundraiser Brings New York Trip Closer for Art Students

A games night fundraiser brings Orewa College students closer to their 2026 New York art trip.

Games night raises vital funds for students' New York City Art trip

Orewa College’s New York Art & Culture trip is one step closer to becoming a reality, thanks to the success of Friday's Games Night fundraiser. Organised by art teachers Paula Friis, Jenny White, and Suzy Kothe, the event brought together 32 students and a supportive community for an evening of fun and fundraising.

The students hoping to travel to New York in 2026 sold tickets and then hosted their guests on the night. They sourced prizes from local businesses, helped run activities, and even stayed behind to clean up, taking real ownership of the event.

The night was hosted by teacher Lewis Bostock and Year 12 student Emily Healy, whose confidence and poise shone as she took on public speaking duties. Games included quiz rounds, bingo, paper dart flying, and the crowd-favourite Stayin’ Alive Challenge, where teams had to keep naming the top 100 sportspeople to stay in the game.

A silent auction alone added nearly $3,000 to the fundraising total, thanks to the generosity of whānau, friends, and local businesses.
