Bronze for Jazz and Concert Bands at KBB Festival

Senior Jazz and Concert Bands earn bronze at the KBB Music Festival in Parnell, Auckland.

Four Orewa College bands performed at one of Auckland’s top music events

Orewa College musicians impressed at the KBB Music Festival in Parnell this August, with the Senior Jazz and Concert Bands both earning bronze awards.

Held at one of Auckland’s top venues for secondary school ensembles, the festival featured performances from four Orewa College groups: Symphonic, Concert, Senior Jazz, and Junior Jazz.

On 12 August, the Jazz Bands performed, followed by the Symphonic and Concert Bands on 15 August. Mr Wilkin led the Symphonic and Senior Jazz Bands, Mr Popper conducted the Concert Band, and Il’ya Allen directed Junior Jazz.

“Our goal for the festival was to display true musicianship while also showing compassion in our own playing as well as the other bands in our session,” said Mr Wilkin. “I believe we achieved this in flying colors!”

Each group delivered carefully rehearsed pieces, showcasing weeks of dedication and teamwork. This experience not only celebrated musicianship but also gave students the added prestige of a bronze finish.
