Video Showcases Our Matariki Festival 2025

Mānawatia a Matariki: Our 2025 Matariki Festival

On Thursday 19 June, the Orewa Arts and Events Centre was filled with aroha, remembrance, and powerful performances as Orewa College proudly hosted the 2025 Matariki Fia Fia. We welcomed our fellow kura, Whangaparāoa College and Mahurangi College, to stand with us in a moving celebration of Matariki, a time to remember those who came before, to celebrate diversity, and to look toward the future with hope.

This video, created by Ralph Zamora, captures the spirit of the Matariki Festival: the grace of kapa haka, the vibrance of our Pasifika performers, and the deep wairua of our poroporoaki ki ngā mate.

Our Matariki festival came to life through powerful kapa haka led by Orewa College, captured by Media Squad leader Megan Postlewaight, and vibrant Pasifika performances, photographed by Georgia Sparks. The evening was marked by a hall united in silence to remember those who have passed, and a heartfelt kōrero from Principal Wiri Warriner on aspirations, legacy, and Hiwa-i-te-rangi. From the first call of the pōwhiri to the final karakia, it was a true expression of community, culture, and connection.
