Orewa College wins Auckland ShowQuest 2025 for the second year in a row.
A big congratulations to our ShowQuest team for their exceptional performance last night…. placing 1ST . A flawless, creative and entertaining performance, up against some extremely tough competition.
A big shout out to all the staff, leading from front and supporting from behind the scenes, in particular, Keighley, Geoff and Gail. Thanks to everyone who came along to support.

OC ShowQuest Team Takes 1st Place – Again! 🏆
Auckland ShowQuest 2025 Night 2 Champions
A massive congratulations to the 2025 Orewa College ShowQuest team, who secured 1st place for the second year in a row at Auckland ShowQuest Night 2 on June 18th!
ShowQuest is Aotearoa’s largest performing arts competition, and Auckland Night 2 (A Night) brought together the five top-tier competitive high schools—all previous ShowQuest winners or finalists. The competition was fierce, but OC brought the fire and came out on top!
Awards Received:
1st Place Overall
Public Speaking Award – for strongest post-performance speech (Kate Barton & Lachlan Buckley, student captains)
Excellence in Technology – Lighting, Technical Elements, and LED Video Wall
Recognition in Art – Styling and Props
Recognition in Drama – Acting and Dramatic Elements
Meet the Team:
This year’s ShowQuest team was made up of 97 students from Years 7 to 13, representing every corner of our kura — from 1st XV rugby players to students in dance, drama, art, technology, and academics. The sense of unity and whānau created was something truly special.

Gail Boshard: head of costumes, who poured hours of mahi into sewing, styling, sourcing epic Temu deals when she joined the drama department in 2025 - with her husband Hilton supporting with props, never once complaining.

Geoffrey Heaney, who brought his expert eye to the drama elements & sci-fi elements.
Alan Nelson, who turned the team's wildest set ideas into reality (and made it look easy!) with Miss Woodroffe's request never being too much .
Rebecca Pinder, for all her support planning the performance before she left the kura in 2024 and who flew back from Australia just to be here on the day.
Francis Ferguson, Jamie Young, Rupert Herring – and their students for their support in constructing our amazing props.
Art, Tech, Maintenance, Sports departments – for doing their part to make it happen, including painting, logo design, sharing the gym space.
Asher Akroyd, for sparking the theme the day after ShowQuest 2024 while driving to the supermarket saying, “Why don’t you do something about aliens? It could be called ‘Out of This World’…”
From there the leadership team ran it back and this year's theme was born. With months of choreography, costume design, set building, tech planning, hundreds of emails, late nights, and relentless rehearsals, OC’s “Out of This World” became a reality.
Theme:A long time ago, in a galaxy not so far away… darkness looms over young Jimmy, a boy who feels out of place in a world that doesn’t quite understand him. Jimmy dreams of escape—to a place where being different isn’t wrong…
A huge thank you to our dedicated alumni Meghan Turton & Grace Brand and amazing parent helpers who worked tirelessly backstage doing hair, makeup, organising costumes, and keeping the vibe positive and professional throughout the day. We couldn’t have done it without you.
