Sailing into Leadership: Spirit of Adventure Voyage 2025
Ten Year 10 students from Orewa College spent five unforgettable nights on board the Spirit of Adventure, a tall ship dedicated to youth development through sailing. Departing from Tāmaki Makaurau on 20 May 2025, the group navigated stunning waters around Motu Iti, Port Jackson, and Aotea (Great Barrier Island), returning on 25 May.
Students Pippa Geyer, Lewis McGhie, Finley Schlumpf, Zander de Beer, Talia Winning, Zoe Gray, Taylor Whorwood, Ava Thorne, Brett Hogg, and Caelan Rademakers, along with Ms Mary Reihana, joined three other kura: Mahurangi College, Pukekohe High, and Burnside High in this epic voyage.
From hoisting sails and climbing the mast to 6:30am ocean swims, cliff jumping, rafting through sea caves, and even sailing under the Harbour Bridge, every day brought something new. The group visited Smokehouse Bay, played games at the top of the Coromandel Peninsula, and even spotted dolphins along the way.
Blessed with beautiful weather, our students embraced every moment at sea, learning together, supporting one another, and diving headfirst into the adventure.
