Orewa College NZ Experience students visited Muriwai Beach to surf, explore the gannet colony, and enjoy beach sports. A memorable day on Auckland’s West Coast.
A West Coast Adventure for NZ Experience Students
On Wednesday 2 April, our two NZ Experience classes spent the day at Muriwai Beach —a classic West Coast adventure, filled with surfing, sand art, sightseeing and team fun.
This special trip was a way to spend time together before many of our international students return home at the end of Term 1. Despite the slightly overcast skies, the conditions were perfect for surfing, and the smiles on the students’ faces said it all.
Highlights from the day included:
Surfing lessons with skilled instructors
Exploring the dramatic cliffs and watching the tākapu (gannets) at the Muriwai colony
Drawing and writing in the sand as a creative way to reflect
Playing football and other beach games together
“It was great to see the students out of the classroom, connecting with each other and with the environment. Muriwai is such a beautiful place to explore,” said Adrienne Croad, our Director of International Students.
This outing was more than just a fun day at the beach—it was a chance for our ākonga to deepen friendships and take home some unforgettable memories from their time in Aotearoa.
Ngā mihi nui to our teachers and surf instructors for supporting this kaupapa!
