Pasifika Group Celebrates Culture at Ports of Auckland Pasifika Day

Last Thursday, our Pasifika group brought culture and connection to the Ports of Auckland Pasifika Day, an event dedicated to celebrating Pasifika communities through music and dance.

A Showcase of Fijian Heritage

  • Our students performed three meke (traditional Fijian dances), each telling a unique story.

  • A highlight of the day was Joyous’s meke, performed in remembrance of Joyous, making the moment even more special for our community.

  • The girls mesmerised the audience with graceful performances of Na Raluve and Korovatu, showcasing the elegance of Fijian dance.

  • The boys brought energy and rhythm with Nauau, a dynamic display of strength and tradition.

Attending the Ports of Auckland Pasifika Day allowed our students to stand tall in their identity, sharing their culture with the wider community.

“It was an honour to represent our Fijian heritage on such a big stage,” said one of our student performers. “Dancing in front of such a supportive audience made it even more special.”

Orewa College is incredibly proud of our Pasifika students. We look forward to more opportunities for them to perform, especially at this year's upcoming Polyfest on April 2 to 5.
