Orewa College Athletes Take on National and International Competitions

Orewa College is proud to celebrate the achievements of our talented athletes who continue to excel in their respective sports. From athletics and squash to cycling and jiu-jitsu, our students are competing at the highest levels both nationally and internationally.

Track & Field: National Representation

We are thrilled to announce that Isabella Pickering and Brian Wilson were selected for the Auckland New Zealand Track & Field Team! They represented Auckland at the national championships in Dunedin from 6-9 March.

Isabella Pickering raced in both the 1500m and 3000m events, becoming a National Bronze Medalist by securing bronze in the Women’s Under 18s, 3000m and achieving a personal best of 10.01.07.

Brian Wilson competed in discus and shot put, becoming a National Silver Medalist by securing silver in both the Para Men's Under 20s discus with a throw of 20.6m and shot put with a distance of 7.55m.

Squash: Yusra Rashid Selected for International Test Series

Yusra Rashid (Year 9) has been selected to represent Aotearoa in the Squash New Zealand Poipatu Aotearoa Junior Trans-Tasman Test Series. She will compete against Australia in an exciting international showdown.

Cycling: Levi Gear Crowned U17 National Champion

Levi Gear (Year 11), Orewa College’s 2024 Sports Person of the Year, dominated the Cycling NZ MTB XCO National Championships, winning the U17 title with an impressive 4.5-minute lead.

Jiu Jitsu: Tyla White Claims Gold

Congratulations to Tyla White (Year 8) for an incredible performance at the NZ Grappler Summer Slam. After a tough competition, Tyla showed skill and determination, securing a gold medal.
