The House System at Orewa College is a vital part of school life. For students and alumni alike, it's a highlight of their time at the college, fostering school pride, teamwork, and a sense of belonging.

Over 20 years of tradition: The house system is part of Orewa College's identity and is cherished by the community.

A place for everyone: Each student belongs to one of five houses: Batten, Nepia, Mclaren, Blake, Sheppard.

Exciting competitions: From sports to cultural activities, students compete in various challenges throughout the year.

Batten House Aims for the Hat-Trick

Batten House has been a dominant force in the annual house competition, winning the last two years in a row. In 2025, they will be pushing for an impressive third consecutive victory. With a legacy of fierce competition and school spirit, the other houses are eager to challenge Batten for the top spot.


Meet our dedicated House Leaders for 2025!

🌟 Lou Shepherd (McLaren) – New to McLaren this year, Lou steps into the leadership role, taking over from Josh Pinho who became dean of Year 9, Lou is ready to inspire McLaren.

🌟 Mel Ibbett (Blake) – A familiar face, Mel returns as Blake's House Leader, having once been a student leader herself. A full-circle moment as she now leads her old house as a teacher.

🌟 Mikayla Loader (Batten) – Mikayla is determined to secure a third consecutive win for Batten House. The pressure’s on, but she’s up for the challenge!

🌟 Sarah O'Donnell (Sheppard) – Leading Sheppard House with enthusiasm, Sarah continues to motivate and support her team every step of the way.

🌟 Gail Boshard (Nepia) – Continuing her great work as Nepia’s House Leader, Gail is dedicated to helping her students win after coming so close in 2024.

This all-female team is led by the passionate and long-running House Leader Joel Dickinson, whose commitment and leadership have been an inspiration to the entire school community. Together, this team would certainly impress Kate Sheppard, the inspiring namesake of Sheppard House, as they lead with Kate's empowering passion.
