Out-of-zone applications

Our Māori Pathway is recognised as an approved Ministry of Education special programme within the Ōrewa College enrolment scheme. This means that whānau who live outside the Ōrewa College zone may apply for a place through the special programme priority process, where places are available.

Acceptance through this process is specifically into the Taipari/Māori Pathway programme rather than general out-of-zone enrolment into the College.

Out-of-zone applications are considered against the special programme criteria, including previous experience or exposure to te reo Māori and Māori-medium learning, whānau commitment to Māori education, and the willingness of the ākonga to participate positively in the kaupapa.

What happens after you apply?

Once we receive your application, we will review it and contact you by email if your child is shortlisted for a hui (interview). The email will include the interview time and further information.

The hui (interview) is an opportunity for the ākonga and their whānau and kura (school) to kōrero (talk) about the pathway, subject choices, learning goals and expectations, including attendance, engagement and participation in the kaupapa.

Following the interview process, whānau will be notified by email if the application has been successful. Successful applicants will have one week from the date of notification to accept their place in the Māori Pathway.

Placement will be confirmed once acceptance has been received.

We encourage whānau to read the attached information carefully and discuss the pathway together before applying.

If you have any pātai (questions), please feel free to contact us.
