Year 7 and Year 8 students from Orewa College excelled at the EPro8 Competition held on November 3rd and 4th, culminating in an inter-school event on November 18th.
Orewa College hosted an exciting EPro8 competition for Year 7 and Year 8 students.
This hands-on event challenged students to apply their engineering skills in a fun and competitive environment. A total of 56 students participated: 28 Year 7 students in the morning and 28 Year 8 students in the afternoon. Working in teams of four, they took on the challenge of creating 'Ironing Man' using EPro8 equipment to design an exoskeleton.
The following day, the top teams from each year level competed in the school finals, where they could choose from three tasks: constructing a ball launcher, shoe throwing scales, or a Jack in the Box. Teams had to collaborate effectively and problem-solve under time constraints to earn points. The winning teams, one from Year 7 and another from Year 8, advanced to the inter-school EPro8 competition held on November 18th at Northcote Intermediate.
Both teams opted to build a remote-controlled shopping trolley, showcasing their impressive teamwork and engineering prowess.
As Year 7 student Ethan Jackson shared, "I enjoyed getting to build with friends and having a time limit to work within. It's good to learn new engineering skills in a fun way."
Congratulations to all participants for their hard work and creativity.
