Middle School Ākonga show up in touch, athletics, volleyball and team challenges
Orewa College Year 7 and 8 ākonga have been busy on the field and court this term, with strong efforts across several regional events.
At the Athletics Interzone Day held at AUT Millennium, Year 7 athlete Eva Wilkins shone with a 1st place finish in the long jump, 3rd in the 100m and 5th in the 200m qualifying her for the upcoming Auckland Interzone Day. Strong performances also came from Elias Metzger-Feki, Ejay Bracero, Jerusha Jacobsz, Yohan Esposo and Tiana Sweeney, all placing well in their respective events.
In beach volleyball, our junior boys made their mark at the Harbour Junior Champs. Coby Kayes and Thomas Manuel claimed an impressive 3rd place finish, defeating teammates Ivandre Phieffer and Jack Jensen in a tight match. Other teams included Eli Martin Dean and Caelan Rademaekers, and Asher Maire and Ryan Chea, who all competed with determination.
At the Touch Zone Day held at Sunnynook Park, our boys' team battled through a tough pool to finish 8th in the boys grade. The girls’ team dropped only their opening match, going on to place 5th overall with speed, skill and excellent communication. Ngā mihi to Mr Warriner, Mr Went and student coaches Julius Chivell and Dom McCleery for their tautoko on the day.
Ten ākonga also took part in the Top Team Zone Day at Whangaparāoa College, competing in a range of fun and physically challenging events designed to test teamwork and problem-solving. Our team placed a commendable 5th equal.
