Orewa College sent nearly 100 ākonga to the 2025 Zespri AIMS Games, achieving record results across multiple sports including netball, orienteering, and swimming.
Orewa College made its biggest impact yet at the 2025 Zespri AIMS Games, sending close to 100 Year 7 and 8 ākonga to compete among 14,000 participants, more than last year’s Paris Olympics. Our teams and individuals delivered determined, skilled performances that reflected the strength of sport at our kura. Teacher in Charge of AIMS 2025 and Netball Coach, Alana Hartley said “The hard work, showcased by our students has paid off in amazing achievements and the many memories made!”
Leading the charge, our individuals started off the week with a bang showcasing our Orienteering talent with 3 podium finishes. A massive achievement which our Netball Girls soon followed up by paving the way for our teams finishing 5th overall out of 122, the highest placing our netballers have ever achieved, in the tournament’s most contested sport. “This group of talented girls have put Orewa College on the map for Netball this whole year and even more so at AIMS” Alana added. Their only loss came in a close match against eventual champions Clendon Park.
Reflecting on the tournament, Year 8 Teacher Tristan Williams, who visited the tournament, added “We are proud of the overall manaaki and the mahi. The results show we are competitive in a range of sporting codes.”
This year’s AIMS Games was a true showcase of the rising tide of athletic talent at Orewa College, which will flow into our new Sporting Pathways programme next year and beyond. We also want to thank the North & South Trust for their support in helping get our students down to AIMS.
