Orewa College and Whangaparāoa College Share Pasifika Pride with Fiafia Performance

Orewa College and Whangaparāoa College’s 2024 Polyfest group held a vibrant Fiafia Night showcasing Fijian, Tongan, Samoan and Sāmoan dance. The sold-out event celebrated culture, whānau, and community pride.

A Night to Celebrate Culture, Whānau and Community

A sold-out crowd filled the Orewa College Theatre on Tuesday 2 April for an unforgettable Fiafia Night – a special celebration of Pasifika culture presented by our combined Polyfest group from Orewa College and Whangaparāoa College.

The evening was a vibrant showcase of student talent, cultural pride, and community spirit.

Highlights from the Evening

  • A powerful 10-minute Fijian Meke performed by the combined Polyfest group

  • Tongan Tauʻolunga performed by Junior students: Mele Toetuu, Pera Tio Rua, and Olivia Prescott

  • A graceful Siva by senior students Dahlyah and Chanel

  • A lively Samoan Fa’ataupati (slap dance) performed by our junior boys

Our rangatahi took the stage with confidence and pride, honouring their cultures and sharing their performance with friends, whānau, and the wider community ahead of the official Polyfest event.

A Moment of Honour

The night also featured a special moment with Aunty Ala Rogers, one of the founding members of the Coast Fijian Community, who has been a longtime supporter of cultural events in our area. A photo of Aunty Ala with Principal Warriner was taken in honour of her commitment to Pasifika youth and their place in our community.

Ngā mihi to all the performers, tutors, whānau, and staff who made the 2024 Fiafia Night a success. This evening was a vibrant reminder that when we come together, we strengthen not only our cultural roots but our community as a whole.
