Orewa College & Whangaparāoa College Bring Fijian Pride to Polyfest 2025
The Polyfest 2025 stage was alive with energy as Orewa College and Whangaparāoa College students performed on the diversity stage, delivering a Fijian performance.
Despite the unpredictable weather, our students took the stage with pride, embracing Fijian culture through dance and song. Their performance was a testament to their dedication, the unwavering support of their whānau, and the manaaki shared by our school communities.
A Performance to Remember
The group, supported by Hibiscus Tuakana, displayed incredible finesse and mana.
An unforgettable moment for many families, with parents moved to tears by the performance.
The turnout of supporters was phenomenal, with strong backing from both Orewa College and Whangaparāoa College whānau.
Special thanks to our Fijian community, who played a crucial role in preparing costumes, choreography, and cultural guidance.
The Heart Behind the Event
Marina, our incredible coordinator, worked tirelessly to bring families together and ensure that the tutors had everything they needed to guide our students. The success of the performance is a reflection of the strong partnerships within our school community.
Our tutors Liti, an Orewa College alum, along with Adi, Ardyn, Kirk, Iman supported students by helping choreograph the performance, and ensured mana flowed throughout.
Jo Hayward also played an essential role in coordinating the event, from organising logistics to MCing at Fiafia Night. Her dedication, alongside the support of families, tutors, and school staff, made the entire journey possible.
“The turnout of supporters was phenomenal,” said Principal Wiri Warriner. “We had great support from our friends at Whangaparāoa College and an overwhelming presence of Orewa College whānau who travelled from far and wide.”
A Celebration of Culture
This year’s Polyfest held extra significance as it marked 50 years of the festival. It was a privilege for our students to be part of this milestone, adding their voices, movements, and mana to a rich legacy of cultural celebration.
A heartfelt vinaka vakalevu to the Coast Fiji mums and all the families who contributed their time and energy. Your passion and dedication to your tamariki and culture have created lifelong memories.
We await the official results from the judges and look forward to celebrating our students' achievements in the coming weeks. No matter the outcome, this performance will be remembered as a powerful expression of unity and cultural pride.
