Orewa College Level 2 Biology students explored biodiversity at North Ōrewa Beach, collecting data for NCEA assessments while experiencing real-world science in action.
Level 2 Biology Trip to North Ōrewa Beach
On Thursday, 27 February, our Level 2 Biology students embarked on an exciting field trip to the rocky shore at North Ōrewa Beach. Despite challenging waves and unpredictable weather, students worked together to collect data and observe local marine life, bringing their classroom learning to life.
A Hands-On Learning Experience
Students explored rock pools and identified key organisms crucial for their NCEA B2.1 and B2.6 assessments. This real-world experience allowed them to see biodiversity in action and understand how different species thrive in various coastal zones.
Key Highlights:
Scientific exploration: Identified and recorded data on marine species.
Collaboration: Worked together to collect samples and support each other.
Real-world biology: Applied classroom learning to a dynamic coastal ecosystem.
Now back in the classroom, students will analyse their findings, explaining the biological processes behind what they observed. This experience not only reinforced their studies but also deepened their connection to the local environment and its ecosystems.
What an awesome day of learning right here in our own community!
