As Deputy Principal my primary role is to ensure that the New Zealand curriculum is delivered to students at Orewa College. I also oversee the sports department and work with teachers, deans and staff to support our students from intermediate and through to their NCEA qualifications. I have been teaching since 2008, having been trained in the United Kingdom, and spent 11 years at Westlake Boys High School first as an English teacher and then as Assistant Head of Department and as a dean. Prior to this I worked in both public and private sectors in the UK.
I am passionate about ensuring that the curriculum is delivered to students in an innovative and future-focused manner, and that our young people are given the opportunities to become creative, inquisitive and open minded. I also see literacy skills, and the ability to communicate effectively, as key to their success.
I am excited about the opportunity to be part of the Orewa College community and working with our dedicated staff to ensure that our akonga are supported fully on their journey through their education.

Mr Richard Wells (WLS)
Deputy Principal
I have been teaching since 2003 and came into teaching after being a computer engineer for five years. I teach programming and robotics and used to be the head of technology at the college. Now a deputy principal, I am in charge of how the school approaches learning for both students and teachers. This includes looking after classroom pedagogy and professional development. I also look after the colleges direction in regards to the use of ICT and have been recognised as an online writer in this field, doing conference speaking and training in a number of countries. I really enjoy my job as I work with teachers and students to improve classroom activity, making it as relevant to 21st-century developments as we can. I am originally from England and arrived with my family in 2006 and we have loved every moment of it.
