Police Vetting

All caregivers and adult helpers must be Police vetted by Orewa College to attend school trips or manage/coach teams. The vetting process is valid for 3 years once completed.

  • Note: Police vetting from other institutions or organisations is not valid for Orewa College.

  • Police vetting must be completed before attending any trip/event as it may take time to process with NZ Police.


How to Complete the Police Vetting Process

To arrange your Police vetting, please follow these steps:

  1. Complete the Police Vetting Form:

  2. Provide two forms of ID (one from the primary list and one from the secondary list below).

    • Primary IDs:

      • Passport (NZ or Overseas)
      • NZ Firearms Licence
      • NZ Full Birth Certificate (issued on or after 1998)
      • NZ Citizenship Certificate
      • NZ Refugee Travel Document
      • NZ Emergency Travel Document
      • NZ Certificate of Identity
    • Secondary IDs:

      • NZ Driver Licence
      • 18+ Card
      • NZ Full Birth Certificate (issued before 1998)
      • Community Services Card
      • SuperGold Card
      • NZ Employee Photo Identification Card
      • NZ Student Photo Identification Card
      • Inland Revenue Number
      • NZ Utility Bill (issued within the last 6 months)
      • NZ Teachers Registration Certificate
      • NZ Electoral Roll Record
      • International Driving Permit
      • Steps to Freedom Form
  3. Verification of Your Identity:
    You can verify your identity in one of two ways:

    • Option 1: Bring your original documents to the main reception at Orewa College. We will copy and verify them for you.
    • Option 2: Use an Identity Refereeto verify your documents.
      • The Identity Refereemust:
        • Be someone of standing in the community (e.g., registered professional, community leader, or Police employee).
        • Be over 16 years of age.
        • Not be related to or a partner/spouse of the applicant.
        • Not be a co-resident of the applicant.
      • The referee must sight the original documents and confirm your identity by comparing your photo with your ID.

Important Notes

  • Police vetting is required before attending any school event or trip.
  • Vetting can take time, so please allow for this when planning.
