Orewa College begins Term 1 2025 with enthusiasm, welcoming new students with a pōwhiri and setting clear expectations for success.
Term 1 2025
Week 2
Tēnā koutou e te whānau o Orewa,
It has been a fantastic start to the year at Orewa College, there is a real sense of enthusiasm from both staff and students, and we are incredibly proud of how our students have engaged with their first week. This energy sets the tone for a year where we continue to focus on equipping our students to be world-ready.
On Wednesday 29th, we were privileged to host our pōwhiri, which welcomed around 450 new students into the Orewa College community. It was a special occasion, and we are grateful to all those whānau who were able to attend and help make it a memorable experience for everyone.
On Thursday 30th, we held assemblies for each year level, providing an opportunity to personally welcome back all of our students and help them settle back into school life. Our message throughout the assemblies was clear: start strong, focus on the basics, and get the small things right. By doing so, we lay the groundwork for a successful and fulfilling year ahead.
This year, we will continue to have a strong focus on improving attendance and engagement - this is a top priority. The research shows consistent attendance is directly linked to improved academic outcomes, and by simply being present, students increase their chances of reaching their full potential. We will be closely monitoring attendance and communicating with you to ensure we’re all aligned in this effort.
We also appreciate your support in reinforcing the following key expectations:
Punctuality – Whether it’s attendance, arriving to class on time, or completing work on schedule, creating strong habits of punctuality is essential for success.
Behaviour and Manaaki – Respect for oneself, others, and the school community is fundamental. We expect all students to demonstrate high
standards of behaviour, which will be a focus from all staff. Manaaki, or caring for others, is a key part of this.Uniform – Wearing our uniform with pride is more than a requirement, it fosters a sense of unity and pride, both within school and the wider community.
We ask all students to embrace this sense of whanaungatanga as part of their commitment to Orewa College.
These three areas; punctuality, behaviour, and uniform, are the foundation for launching into a successful year. If we can get these smaller tasks right early, the larger tasks ahead will be that much more attainable. We greatly appreciate your ongoing support in helping to instill these values in our students.
Thank you for your continued support and commitment to Orewa College.
Nāku noa, nā,
