In Science students explore the natural, physical, material and living world through hands-on, engaging, and real-world experiences, empowering them to think critically and participate as informed citizens in a science-driven society.

Middle School (Years 7 & 8)
Year 7
Our Year 7 Science programme is the focus of Terms 2&3, alternating with Social Studies. Students gather foundation skills and knowledge in science, before having choice in their area of study. This allows students a great deal of opportunity to practice their Key Competencies.
Term 2 “Nature of Science” – states of matter, scientific inquiry, fair testing
Term 3 “World of Wonder” – students opt into high-interest topics for independent inquiry

Year 8
Our Year 8 Science programme enables students to gather foundation skills and knowledge in science with an emphasis on key competencies.
Term 1 “Living World” - choice of context of living world topics to explore in an individualised inquiry. Social action and a “community clean up” finish the term off.
Term 3 & 4 – “Earth’s Fury”; an integrated topic with Social Studies. Particularly looking at our planet and natural phenomena that occur in our world.
Middle School (Years 9 & 10)
Year 9
Year 10
Science
Year 9 Science is a hands-on, semester-long course where students explore the natural world through dissections, ecosystem investigations, and modelling. They use software to study Matariki and the solar system and conduct experiments on matter, energy and chemical changes, developing science skills through questioning and discovery.
Science
Year 10 Science is a full-year course that deepens students' understanding through hands-on activities, exploring human systems, genetics, natural disasters and forces. Students apply their knowledge to real-life situations, preparing for lifelong learning and NCEA.
Senior School (Years 11 -13)
Year 11 (Level 1 NCEA)
Year 12 (Level 2 NCEA)
Year 13 (Level 3 NCEA)
General Science
Biology
Biology
An engaging and hands-on course exploring human health, chemical reactions, waves, and space through experiments, modelling and creative projects. With real-world applications and a variety of learning approaches, students build science skills for daily life and future studies in Senior Sciences.
Chemistry
Chemistry
General Science - With a focus on Chemistry + Biology
Physics
Physics
An engaging and hands-on course exploring human health, genetics, chemical reactions and environmental science through experiments, modelling and creative projects. Students investigate real-world issues like predator impact on taonga species and the environmental cost of materials while building key skills for future science study.
Earth & Space Science
Earth & Space Science
General Science - With a focus on Physics + Earth and Space

Biology Scholarship
An engaging and hands-on course exploring forces in sport and transport, waves, earth systems and space through experiments, modelling and creative projects. Students investigate real-world issues like deforestation and the Moon's effects on Earth while building key skills for future science study.
