KBB Festival 2021

Orewa College entered four bands into this year’s KBB festival. On Wednesday 11 August, the Symphonic and Concert Bands had their performances. They are both young bands, having only formed at the end of 2020, however, they played brilliantly, with accuracy and lots of energy. “ Bravo, You guys are going to be something.” The Judicator, Ms Cohens said.

The Senior Concert Band played exceptionally well with the acoustics of Trinity Cathedral to carry their sound right up to the adjudicators in the back balcony. All four of our pieces went very well indeed, and our Band were commended for excellent balance, musical phrasing and precision. We were awarded a well deserved Silver.

The Junior Jazz Orchestra and the Senior Jazz Band rocked St Mary’s Church on Thursday 12 August. The Junior Jazz Band, conducted by Dylan Blomquist, Year 13, played first and gained lots of respect for their performance. It was, without a doubt, the youngest orchestra on the day. “ Players with a lot of potential” to quote one of the judicators.

The Senior Jazz Band concluded our contribution to this Year’s KBB Festival. They had “lovely groove“, and were commended for great sound. They played with confidence and produced a truly lovely set. At the end we were rewarded with Silver.
