On Friday 30 August, Orewa College successfully hosted a shave-a-thon to raise funds for the New Zealand Cancer Society. This event was organised by Year 12 student and academic leader Valrey Kruger.

Valrey shared with us why this was so important to her "This event was deeply personal for me, as someone close to my whānau is battling cancer. It inspired me to bring our community together to support those affected".

There was no shortage of eager participants amongst both students and staff, with funds raised going directly to the New Zealand Cancer Society. Valrey was ably supported by teachers Althea White, Paula Friis, Tanja Spaabaek, Sharon De Vries and Richard Wells in organising this event.
