ANZAC Ceremony

On Friday 13 April, our Anzac Assembly was held in the Arts & Events Centre. The event was attended by our Year 7&8 classes, senior management, members of Kapa haka and Head Prefects, as well as invited guests from the Royal New Zealand Navy, King’s Empire Veterans and Hibiscus Coast RSA. The 45-minute commemoration includes video of Gallipoli restored by Peter Jackson, and a moving RSA-produced music video called “Ragged Bloody Heroes”.

Many Year 7&8 students were involved in making this a very successful event, as well as contributions from some senior students. Anna Connell and Thomas Aitken (both Year 8) hosted the event, while Billie Hart (Head Girl), Dione Taurua (Year 12) and Jed Melvin (Head Boy) read the Dedication and The Ode, and Alex de Beer (Year 13 Prefect) played “Last Post” and “Reveille”. The sound and lighting team, headed by Isaac Kirkwood (Year 13) also did an amazing job.

Highlights include Mr Hume (Head of Science) bagpiping the guests in, and the wreath-laying at the school’s Memorial Garden. Special thanks to Mrs Boshard and Mrs Maclennan for their effort and energy in organising this event.
