2018 Sir Paul Callaghan Eureka Awards

Katrina Young won Highly Commended and a Merit Award in the National Finals of the 2018 Sir Paul Callaghan Eureka Awards. She was one of 3 students to win these awards which are worth $5000. Her presentation was called ‘Epigenetics and Health’ which is about changing the way genes are expressed without changing their structure. The contestants were a mixture of Secondary school and University students. Katrina was one of 12 students across New Zealand who were selected to present at the National Finals. Katrina is the 3rd Orewa College student to win an award in the Eureka competition. In 2015 Jenny Palmer won the supreme as a Year 12 student and in 2016 Dana Lawson was 2nd equal
