Health and PE

In Health and Physical Education, students learn about their own well-being, and that of others and society, in health-related and movement contexts.

Middle School (Year 7 & 8)

Our Year 7 Health & Physical Education programme is built around the concept of hauora – overall wellbeing. This is underpinned by our school values programme – Manaaki Orewa - where students are encouraged to be ‘the best that they can be’.

Term 1 Personal identity, Manaaki Orewa; Outdoor Education; Teamwork, summer sports skills

Term 2 Making and keeping friends, Changes at Adolescence; Winter sports skills, te reo kori

Term 3 Taha tinana – healthy eating; Personal fitness, goal setting

Term 4 Stereotypes; Athletics, devised games

Term 2 Te Reo Kori, Safer schools and communities; crime prevention working alongside the NZ Police

Term 3 Personal growth and challenge, sports performance. Health promotion; Involves students designing inquiries to address a social need in Orewa.

Term 4 Camp, Athletics. Health promotion inquiry carried over from term 3.

Health components


Students will complete approximately 8 to 10 hours of Health each term. Year 9's will focus on the following themes:

Term 1: My Wellbeing

Term 2: Mental health

Term 3: Positive relationships and sexuality

Term 4: Adolescent health issues

Students will learn about 'in, through and about movement.'

Health components

Students will complete approximately 8 to 10 hours of health each term. Year 10's will focus on the following themes:

Term 1: Discrimination and tolerance

Term 2: Sexuality education

Term 3: Adolescent influences and consequences

Term 4: Ethical health issues in NZ
